Dora Duru (MS '08)

Arguing the case: Dora Duru, MS'08 was awarded the Richard Nagareda Award for Best Oralist in the 2019 Bass Berry & Sims Moot Court Competition, a competition in which she wrote and delivered a brief for a fascinating case that touched on both second and fourteenth amendment issues. The competition included 62 teams and a total of 123 participants. The final round was argued before a panel of three federal appellate judges, including Judge Stephen A. Higginson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, who served as the round’s Chief Justice, Judge David J. Barron of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and Judge Amy Coney Barrett of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Read more about the award and case here. 


Francis Poon (MS '09)

In the spotlight: Francis Poon MS’ 09, celebrated a 6th season premiere of his series This is Life with Lisa Ling, in September 2019. The CNN original documentary television series produced by Part2 Pictures explores different American communities & social issues in America today.  You can watch these Sunday nights at 10pm and if you’ve missed any of the 43 episodes, you can download them on Amazon or iTunes.  As a true Milken Scholar family member, Francis invited Diana Hong MS ’99 to provide support on translation needed for one of his most recent episodes.  Make sure to watch! 


Clarence Kong (MS '14)

Fighting fires with passion: Great Neck, New York Firefighter Clarence Kong, MS '14, was recently featured in a new video about the teamwork and community that supports these humble public servants in their noble work. "Every 9-1-1 call we get, the person on the other side is probably experiencing the worst day of his or her life, and me being able to be there and make a positive difference in their lives, that means everything to me." Notable Woman in Healthcare: Dr. Jenny Tsang-Quinn, MS '89, has been recognized by Crain's New York Business for her leadership at Maimonides Medical Center as VP of Clinical Programs and Provider Engagement.


Amanda Gorman (MS '16)

Make Room on Your Bookshelf: Amanda Gorman, MS '16, has been offered a two-book deal with Viking Children's Books. Look for the first title, "Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem," in 2021!


Julie Lee (MS '07)

Cardiovascular Queries: Dr. Julie Lee, MS '07, recently earned her MD with Research Honors from the State University of New York at Buffalo - School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. Her research on women’s cardiology won first prize at Academy of Women and was published by the Journal of American Heart Association and Healio!

Najya Williams (MS '16)

New Ideas, New Research: Najya Williams, MS '16, received the Stephen Rose Undergraduate Research Fund Award! Najya plans to use the Rose funds to study the emotional labor distribution amongst Black activists in Boston and DC.
