Amanda Gorman is a graduate of New Roads School in Santa Monica. She is the inaugural Los Angeles Youth Poet Laureate and Western Region Youth Poet Laureate and is one of four candidates to become the first ever United States Youth Poet Laureate. Amanda traveled to New York as a delegate for the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and has written for WriteGirl, The Huffington Post, mariashriver.com and HelloGiggles. Amanda founded One Pen One Page, a nonprofit that teaches youth to use writing to promote social change. Amanda will attend Harvard and plans to study literature and politics.

This award is honors a teen poet who demonstrates not only extraordinary literary talent but also a proven record of community engagement and youth leadership. Amanda is a rising sophomore at Harvard studying literature and politics.
