Biography
Amanda Rizkalla is a recent Steinbeck Fellow and Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing Fellow. She has been a writer-in-residence at Ragdale, Hedgebrook, Djerassi, Mountain Words, the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, Monson Arts, and Blue Mountain Center. After graduating from Stanford University, she received her MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she was the Kemper Knapp Fellow. Her debut novel, Hungered, was published by Holt/Macmillan.

Reshaping the Idea of Home. Amanda Rizkalla, MS ‘16, Steinbeck Fellow and Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing Fellow, published her debut novel, Hungered. Loosely based on some of Amanda’s lived experiences, the book explores topics surrounding economic insecurity, coming of age, and identity. Through the eyes of fictional 12-year-old Sofia, Amanda challenges readers to question what, and who, can define a home.
