Nour Qarmout
Biography
Nour Qarmout is a sophomore at Claremont McKenna College studying Integrated Science with a concentration in Neuroscience and Health Sciences on the pre-med track. She conducts research in two labs, one investigating the neuroscience of working memory and another focused on cell signaling and differentiation. She competes on CMC's Model United Nations team, serves as a CARE Fellow in the Dean of Students office and she is a CMC tour guide. As an Appel Fellow, Nour developed a creative writing project that explores what doctors can teach us about humanity and empathy. She spent the summer after her first year using her fellowship to travel to three countries, conducting interviews and writing creative nonfiction; building a collection of essays she hopes to continue expanding. Outside the classroom, Nour continues to lead the STEM Spark Foundation, the nonprofit she founded to expand access to STEM education for underrepresented students. Her earlier work includes interning at AV Neuroscience Medical Group, founding the Future Medical Students Club, serving as Student Body President, and captaining her Mock Trial team. Nour is a graduate of Students On Academic Rise (SOAR) High School and a graduate of Antelope Valley College.
