Mekdelawit Gebreslassie

Biography

Mekdelawit (Mekdi) Gebreslassie, valedictorian of Parkmont School, is a QuestBridge finalist, and recipient of fellowships from Civics Unplugged and Climate Innovators. She advocates for tenants’ rights, tutors newly arrived Ukrainians, and translates for families at The Platform of Hope, helping them build community. Author of two self-published books and Brave New Voices semi-finalist, Mekdi shares her creativity at Free Minds Book Club where she gives incarcerated adults feedback on their poetry. Mekdi will attend Princeton to study political science.
