Biography

I am Marcos Perez, formerly a junior (3rd year by classes completed) undergraduate student at Caltech in astrophysics (originally planetary science). I recently founded a startup named Ultra Electrics LLC. We will use safe and proven methods to store over 100,000 times more energy per kilogram than lithium ion batteries do for stationary power sources like city power grids, and will store over 100 times more energy per kilogram for portable/mobile batteries like pacemakers, spacecraft, vehicles, and smaller electronics. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in discussing this further.

In 2025 I worked as a scientist part of the Astrophotonics Technology Lab at UCLA and the spin-out startup spectraview that miniaturized infrared spectrographs over 1000x to monitor methane pollution leaks from gas pipelines.

2023-24 I was a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow with the Yuk Yung group at Caltech, and I simulated the atmospheric chemistry of Venus over 200 Earth days using supercomputers as part of the Caltech Geology and Planetary Sciences department and presented my work at the American Astronomical Society Division for Planetary Sciences in 2023.

2021-22 I was a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow with the Exoplanet Technology (ET) Lab at Caltech and photonics subgroup at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) managed by Caltech. I presented and published a paper as first author with equal contribution at the international optics conference SPIE in 2022.

2020-2021 I was a geology and software intern with the Ehlmann Research Group and the Lunar Trailblazer NASA mission, which launched in 2025 to study water ice on the Lunar surface.
