Biography
Karen Garcia, a graduate of The Archer School for Girls, is a junior at Columbia University studying Chemical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science and a concentration in Biotechnology and Biopharmaceuticals. At Columbia, she is Vice President of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, co-leads High School workshops for Columbia's Biotech Society, and is an undergraduate researcher at the Glasgow Lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at CUIMC. Her research interests center on protein engineering, particularly the design of tunable transcriptional regulators for therapeutic applications, and exploring the intersection of computational approaches with experimental biology. In high school, she was a member of the Honor Education Council, Executive Board Member for Hermanas Unidas, and Administrative Lead of the InvenTeam, overseeing a $10,000 school grant from Lemelson-MIT to promote invention.
