Janet Omoruyi

Public Policy

Biography

Janet Omoruyi, a graduate of NEST+m High School, is a Ron Brown Scholar, New York Times-published writer, annual Carnegie Hall performer, AP Scholar with Distinction, and National African American awardee. As Black Student Union President, she founded her school’s first Juneteenth celebration and Cards for the Culture, a city-wide volunteer coalition mobilizing hundreds of Black youth in service to Black senior citizens. She serves as Senior Class Representative, Debate and Cheer Team Captain, and sponsors open mics as Spotlight Club President. A 2022 winner of the NYC Space Prize Challenge, she won a Zero-G Flight prize package worth $16,000, addressed UN Ambassador Greenfield, interviewed Aisha Bowe, and was featured on a Times Square billboard. As a junior researcher under NYU ARISE, a summer program with a 8% acceptance rate, Janet conducted novel research into organic solar cells and presented her findings to the NYU community. Janet will pursue public policy and energy research at the University of Pennsylvania.
