Isamar Zhu

Biography

Izzy Zhu graduated from MIT with a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering and a minor in Environment and Sustainability. She will be returning to MIT to pursue her Master’s degree in Computer Science.

Izzy has served as President of the MIT Chinese Students Club, Outreach Lead for HarvardxMIT Women in AI, and Marketing Executive for HackMIT, where she helped support student communities across culture, technology, and AI. She has also worked as a lab assistant for a core programming class, helping students with assignments and exams. Outside of MIT, Izzy has completed software engineering internships at Amazon and Datadog, where she built full-stack tools, applications, and backend systems.

Izzy’s interests sit at the intersection of computer science and environmental science, focusing on conservation technology. Through research with the MIT Media Lab and MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative, she has helped develop technology for field research, biodiversity analysis, and environmental impact. She has also completed a software engineering internship at Cadence OneFive, a sustainability technology startup, and a civil engineering internship at Stantec, where she wrote environmental impact reports. She is currently doing contract work for National Geographic.
