Alexander Billups

Biography
Alexander Billups is a graduate of Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C. He is a QuestBridge National Match Finalist, QuestBridge College Prep Scholar, member of the National Honor Society, and recipient of the United States Senate Youth Program Scholarship. Alex represented his class in student government and co-captained Gonzaga’s varsity rugby team, which won the National High School Rugby Championship. He has tested new drugs in a neurological disorders lab at the NIH, prepared meals for elderly and homeless residents in his community, and created a lunch program for low-income students at Gonzaga. Alex studies computer science at Penn State and plans a career in computer science research. He worked at Carnegie Mellon's Institute of Software Research(ISR) as a Research Intern under Dr.Travis Breaux on a Natural Language Processing project and at the University of Southern California's Institute of Creative Technologies(ICT) as a Research Intern under Dr.Mohammad Soleymani. This previous summer, Alex worked at IBM Research in San Jose, CA as a research intern, and currently is applying to grad schools and research jobs.
