Biography

Shu (Sue) Phua is currently a health research analyst for Mathematica Policy Research in Washington, DC. She recently graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Biology (2021) and a MPH in the Health Policy, Law, and Ethics concentration (2022). During her time at UVA, she worked as a research assistant on a Health Impact Assessment to predict the potential effects of a mega-landfill on a nearby rural underserved community in Virginia. She also interned with the Legal Aid Justice Center to evaluate the effect of medical debt on subsequent healthcare-seeking behaviors. Shu is deeply passionate about working with underserved communities to address socioeconomic determinants of health and promote health equity.
