- In Successful Fashion: following her graduation from Penn this spring, Alixandra Kriegsman, MS '09, will begin her job as a marketing coordinator for Conde Nast, the publishing house for magazines such as Vogue, New Yorker, GQ, and Vanity Fair.
- Innovation Explanation: Jason Young, MS ’02, was recognized by American Express and Ashoka as one of forty-five future leaders in social entrepreneurship in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He is the founder of Mindblown Labs, a start-up that makes mobile games that teach young people financial literacy and other 21st Century Skills. Jason will take part in the2013 American Express Emerging Innovators Campaign.
- Not a tragedy. Congratulations to Nick Mosca, MS ‘02, who won Harvard Divinity School’s 2013 Billings Preaching Prize on April 13th, delivering a sermon about humor in the Gospels. The contest has taken place annually since 1904.
- Supporting Science: Congratulations are in order for Angela She, MS ‘08, who was recently awarded the National Science Foundation’s prestigious Graduate Research Fellowship (GRFP) to continue her work at Harvard University in their Chemical Biology Ph.D. program.
- Help is on the Way: Nico Fine, MS ‘12, has joined the M.I.T. Media Lab Biomechatronics research group, where he works in Variable-impedance Prosthetic (VIPr) Socket Design. They will soon launch an initial version of an interactive encyclopedia of bio-mechanical technology.
- Big Apple Advocacy: Dennis Ojogho, MS ‘12, has secured a summer internship with the Legal Aid Foundation of New York, where he will be part of their educational advocacy for children with disabilities. Congratulations!
- Mental Note: Caitlin Zellers, MS ‘12, is one of three undergraduates to have curated an exhibit in the Dartmouth libraries this term. “Perturbations, Water Nymphes, and the Devil Perceptions of Mental Disease Then and Now,” is housed in the Class of 1965 Galleries in Rauner Special Collections Library and runs from April 2nd through June 21st.
- Fantastic Fellowship: Congratulations are in order for Jalondra Davis, MS ‘02,who was recently awarded a Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship to work toward her Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Riverside this fall.
- All systems go: Mission Assurance Engineer, Morris Vanegas, MS ‘08, was on the console for SpaceX’s Dragon launch, its second commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station. He will take a break from the action this fall when he returns to M.I.T. to earn his master’s in Astrophysics / Aeronautics.
- Charting a new course: Ruiquan Jin, MS ‘05, is stepping up his work as the director of development for two national education ventures, Summer Advantage USA and the Phalen Leadership Academies. In this capacity, he helped found, develop the blueprint and secure major investments to launch a new charter school management organization (Phalen Leadership Academies) that will serve over 10,000 children in its initial network. The first school will open fall 2013 in Indiana.
